Summary of Responsibilities | 2nd & 3rd Shift Only Responsible for providing a therapeutic milieu ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of clients in care and the implementation of the treatment program. |
Requirements | Must possess excellent organizational, communication, time management, documentation, and conflict resolution skills. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to manage multiple tasks. Must have a general knowledge of PC. A temperament to work with and care for clients with special needs. Knowledge and skills needed to address cultural differences within the organization's service population. Must be flexible and willing to work holidays, overtime, and different shifts and apartments. Must possess willingness to participate in activities on and off campus for the educational and social development of clients.
Position requires employee to implement the child caring program by providing a therapeutic milieu. Position requires employee to respond to clients' needs with fairness, objectivity, firmness, care, and concern, as well as observes behavioral and emotional climate within the group and with each individual client and respond appropriately. Supervises and assists residents in fulfilling daily expectations of treatment goals and basic needs. Teaches clients basic life skills such as housekeeping, hygiene, personal appearance, etc. Supervises clients during activities such as chores, studying, recreation, leisure activities, and bedtime routine.
All applicants for this position must be willing and physically able to perform Safe Crisis Management (SCM), a technique used to restrain or transport a client who has temporarily lost control of their behavior. St. Joseph Children's Home provides extensive training in this technique as well as many other training requirements and opportunities. Forty (40) clock hours of required staff development/training annually, including sixteen (16) hours of which must be successfully completed in Safe Crisis Management. Must implement and use the tools acquired during education sessions.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a related field preferred; or a HS diploma or GED with the thorough documentation of a minimum of two years extensive experience and training in the Social Services field.
All applicants for this position must also possess a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record. An insurance driving record means no more than two minor motor vehicle convictions in the last year, or no more than three minor motor vehicle convictions in the last three years; no more than one at fault accident in the past year or more than two at fault accidents in the last three years; or, no more than one at fault accident and two minor motor vehicle convictions in the last three years. If you've ever been convicted of a DUI/DWI, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, or any other major motor vehicle conviction(s) you are not eligible for employment.
